Baby
Food Slovakia examines the trends in the
baby food market for 2007-2013, with forecasts to 2019. It examines how live
birth rates, breastfeeding trends, the economic crisis, new product and
packaging developments, changing attitudes and safety concerns have affected
the market for baby milks, cereals, meals, drinks and finger foods.
Key
Findings
The market for baby food in Slovakia has
expanded by around a quarter over the past seven years to reach an estimated
3,124 tonnes in 2011. Up to late 2008, demand was stimulated by the increasing
buoyancy of the economy which encouraged consumer spending, as well as by the
increasing number of births. In 2009, while the number of births continued to
grow, the economy plummeted, causing a drop in per capita consumption rates of
baby food. 2010 saw the market bounce back, and growth was also strong in 2011.
Total per capita consumption in 2011 stood at 51kg, up 10.9% compared with
2005.
